A Quick Pick Me Up

This is a haul from a couple of weeks ago that I never got around to posting. I figured I might as well post it now as there isn't anything exclusive in it. As you can see I had a little bit of a splurge in Boots. I have been getting into painting my nails recently so I wanted to pick up some nail art pens and I also purchased the OPI nail envy completely on impulse. Although I would recommend buying it online as it is far cheaper. I picked up Barry M glitter polish in gold as I have seen some fabulous Instagram pictures of baby pink nails with gold glitter accents. I decided to take the plunge and to try out the Real Techniques sponge and Soap and Glory's sexy mother pucker gloss stick after reading rave reviews online about both products. When I was paying at the counter I noticed this Boots dry shampoo on offer, so I decided I might as well see how it compares to Batiste. No doubt reviews will feature on my blog soon.

I bought the Chanel Vitalumiere in a local pharmacy because they had a 25% off day. This was one of my all-time favourite foundations but having used it lately I am not as head over heads about it as I use to be. Isn't it funny how our taste changes?

My mum was kind enough to pick me up this pink blazer and white top for my work wardrobe. They are both from Dunnes Store. I have worn the white vest top loads, tucked into a black pencil skirt and paired with a black blazer. I have yet to wear the pink blazer which is actually from the kids department. My plan is to wear it over a simple black structured dress.

Finally, I picked up two pairs of trousers in Zara. My friend was wearing a beautiful pair of Zara skinny leg suit trousers with a pair of heels and they looked fabulous so I asked would she mind if I copied her. The trousers are great quality and they fit like a glove.

OPI Nail Envy

You may have observed from some of my previous NOTD posts that I am slightly addicted to gel nails. I wear them on a regular basis. Lately, my gel nails have been peeling and breaking very easily. I took this as a sign that it was time to give my nails a break. When the gels came off my nails were not in the best condition. On my next visit to Boots I spotted O.P.I Nail Envy and decided to purchase it on impulse as I was frustrated with my ugly nails. I have wanted to try this product for ages but it is very expensive retailing for €21.99, but I figured it would it be worth it if it improved the condition of my nails.

Now this is where it gets slightly complicated. As I previously mentioned my gel nails kept breaking and I decided to give my nails a rest but during this time I was graduating and I wanted perfect nails for the day so, I decided to go to a salon in Dublin called NU-U and get shellac done. I have gotten shellac done on previous occasions and was never happy, it always pealed within the first week. But the girl in NU-U was absolutely amazing! I will never get my nails done anywhere else. The shellac lasted an entire 4 weeks and when I removed it, my nails were super long and in good condition. I started applying the O.P.I Nail envy underneath my nail varnishes and my nails have stayed long and strong for the past 6 weeks.  I feel the Nail Envy has really benefited my nails. They manage to grow very long and don't split. Also I have noticed my nail varnish has been lasting much longer.

I thought I would include a picture of my nails when I first got the shellac applied when they were very short and then a recent picture of them after using the Nail Envy for approx. 3 weeks.
Have you tried Opi's Nail Envy? What did you think of it?

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner

I don't know where to begin proclaiming my love for this product. I bought it after reading a review online and liked the sound of it. You see I have dry flaky skin but when I use exfoliators they just seem to irritate my skin and leave it red and even more flaky than before. Enter Clarins Gentle Exfoliator. I have now said goodbye to my dry flaky skin because of this beauty. Clarins describe it as -

" A fresh, fluid exfoliating lotion that brightens smooths and softens skin. Regular exfoliation helps to strengthen the skin's resistance to wrinkles and maintain the balance between preventing a build-up of dead cells and encouraging cell renewal."

Now they recommend only using this once or twice a week at most as it contains AHA. AHA can make your skin sensitive to the sun. Since the percentage of AHA is very low I use it daily. This is my second bottle and I have had no sensitivity. Originally I was using it twice daily but I was flying through it and found that using it once a day was giving me the same results.

It is a thick liquid that you apply to cotton wool and sweep over your face. You then have to wait one minute before applying your moisturiser. My skin feels lovely and smooth after applying it and as I mentioned above since I have been using this product I have not suffered any bouts of flaky skin. I use to get extremely dry around my nose area and when I applied my foundation it looked awful. I had tried everything to cure this problem but this is the first product I have gotten such postive results from.

Having found this successful type of exfoliator for my skin. I can not wait to try Pixi Glow Tonic and maybe P60.

What is your favourite exfoliator?

Origins Make A Difference Plus +

I recently changed up my skincare routine and decided to try out a new moisturiser. The reason behind this was that I was using Oilatum which I love but, had read it contains large amounts of mineral oils. These are known to cause blackheads and I suffer from a few around my nose so decided to veer away from products known to cause them. I have quite a few Origins products and love all of them so Origins was my first port of call when choosing a new moisturiser.

At the Origins counter I told the lady suffer from dry skin and she observed that I am slightly oily on my T-Zone. She recommended the Make A Difference Plus +. Origins aim this moisturiser towards dry/very dry skin types.

So far I really like this moisturiser. I only need a tiny amount and I use it twice a day. I am using it in conjunction with my hydraluron. I do feel if I wasn't using my hydraluron that it wouldn't be rich enough for my skin. However, I may have been using products that have been too rich for my skin in the past as since I have started using this moisturiser I haven't had any breakouts. I'm not using it long enough to comment on my blackheads. I was expensive enough at €45 but you only need to apply the smallest amount so it will last ages. Another concern I had when opting for an Origins moisturiser was, would it irritate my sensitive skin as they contain essential oils. I can report I have had no problems what so ever on that front. Origins has once again lived up to my expectations. The next product I want to try from them is the Brighter By Nature exfoliating pads. I tested them in store and they feel amazing.

What Origins products have you tried? What do you recommend I try next?

Empties Vol 7

I have been very diligent in recent months not allowing myself to buy any new products until I have finished up some of my older ones. Foundations are my weakness and I am a devil for buying new ones and not finishing old ones. I have managed to finish two foundations within the last two months which is good, but I loved them both so much I want to repurchase the pair of them. Whoops.

Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation
I adore this foundation. It is one of my favourites which is strange considering I have dry skin. Usually I have to steer clear of compacts. I just had a brief look through my old posts and can't believe I have never reviewed this foundation. Yes, it has featured in my favourites on many occasions but it doesn't have its own review. I must rectify this. I recently had this foundation in my hand in Boots ready to repurchase but sadly the price tag put me off! It is €20.00 in Ireland! I feel that is way too expensive for a drug store foundation. I also tend to use this product up very fast so I don't feel I get value for money. However, I will purchase it again and will post a review but I think I will keep it in my handbag and use it for touch ups rather than as my everyday foundation.

Frizz-ease 3 Day Straight
This regularly features in my empties. I use it every time I blow dry my hair and I swear by it. Review here. I have two bottles of it on the go. One in my Dublin house and one at home. Heaven forbid I ever be without this product. It helps me achieve a salon blow dry every time I dry my hair. Another positive with this product is the it often features on the 3 for 2 offers in Boots.

Macadamia Deep Repair Masque
One of my secrets is that I never use regular conditioner I always use a hair mask. The reason for this is that I only wash my hair 2/3 times a week and it is fairly thick. I find a mask to be much more nourishing. I picked up this masque in TKmax because it was €30.00 for 500mls. To be honest I wouldn't repurchase it as I am not sure if it has benefited my hair. It leaves my hair tangle free and silky but I have been using it for a year now and on my last two trips to the hairdressers I have needed to get a lot more chopped off than usual as the ends are very damaged. I am not totally sure whether this is due to me blow drying my hair and using a GHD or the conditioner isnt as effective as my previous ones. I am going to revert back to my trusty Kerastase and see if I notice a difference.

This product has entered into holy grail territory for me. I am already on my second tube. I have a review here if you would like to read more about it.

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner
I purchased this product at the same time I picked up Hydraluron on the recommendation from Caroline Hirons. I am also on my second bottle of this. I use to suffer with flaky skin and when I applied my foundation it only accentuated the problem. Since using this the problem has been completely eliminated. Originally I was using this toner twice a day but as I didn't find any difference between using it once or twice a day, I now only use it in the mornings.

Tresemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo
I have a love/hate relationship with dry shampoos. I honestly could not live without them. On many occasion they have been my saviour but I also hate the way they make my hair and scalp feel. Out of all of the dry shampoos I have tried this one is the top of my list. It does make my scalp dry but not to the same extent as other brands. My favourite thing about this product is the smell, it doesn't have a clawy scent that I usually associate with dry shampoos.

Rimmel Match Perfect Foundation
I picked up this foundation a while ago and somehow it got lost amongst my makeup and I never reached for it. In December I was on a mission to finish up the majority of the foundations I had lying around. This foundation is slightly dark for me at the moment considering I am nearly see thru I am so pale. However I love the finish it gives, I also find it very long lasting. I will definitely be repurachasing this.

Soap & Glory Scrub Em & Leave Em Body Buff
It has to be said I am a major Soap & Glory fan. I don't think I have any negative comments from all the products I have tried in the range so far. This body scrub has lived up my high expectations. I enjoy rough body scrub as I feel my skin has been thoroughly exfoliated. This exfoliator has a slightly oily feel to it which I love, it always makes my skin feel super nourished. As with all Soap and Glory products it has their lovely signature scent which lingers after the shower.

Nivea Deodorant
I am indifferent about this deodorant. I picked it up as it was on offer. It does the job and smells lovely. My Mum actually adores the smell she always asks what perfume it is after I spray it. However, I think I will revert back to my regular Dove original deodorant rather than repurchase this one.

What products have you used up lately that you will repurchase?

Needs & Wants

Christmas Wishlist
Le Pilage Longchamps (Black)
I have this bag in navy and use it constantly. It's fantastic as you can fit half the house inside it and it is really durable. Since I have started work I am wearing black nearly every day so I am unable to use my navy Longchamps. For this reason I would love the black one. I have a gift voucher for Brown Thomas and was going to buy this only to learn that BT's doesn't stock Longchamps! I was devastated. Although I don't think I will struggle that much spending said voucher.

Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch
I have been lusting after this watch for well over a year. I know everyone and their mother has this watch but I think it is so beautiful. I have the ceramic white Michael Kors watch but it is really delicate and I am afraid I am going to break it. So I would like this watch for everyday use.

Ikea Stave Mirror
I have been meaning to pick this up for ages but it is such a trek out to Ikea that I have been putting it off. Unfortunately I was there a couple of weeks ago but they were all sold out. I just want a full length mirror for my room for the obligatory OOTD pictures! I was surprised at the quality of this mirror when I seen it in store considering it only costs €20 and online it doesn't look like much.

Zara Leggings
I have lusted after the J-Crew Pixi pants for so long but can't justify the price as when you add on delivery and custom charges they work out at approx €230 just for a pair of leggings and I am not even sure what size to get. Well low and behold Zara has introduced a pair that seem to be pretty similar. I have heard loads of You Tubers rave about these so of course I want to be in on the action!

Lipsy Black Maxi Dress
With my new job there is always balls and events to go to, because there is so many I wanted to pick out a simple black dress that I could change up with different accessories rather than having to buy a new dress for every event. However on my search for a black dress I came across this amazing Lipsy dress even though it's not plain black which is what I had in mind. I think I have fallen in love with this one and nothing else will compare.

BaByliss Big Hair Spinning Brush
Now this is definitely a wish list item as I am not really sure if I want it or not! I really want to try it as I think the concept is fantastic but will it be any good? I have read mixed reviews so I am not sure and it is fairly pricey if you were to only use it once. Do any of you girls have this? Is it any good?

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush
I recently picked up another bottle of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and was having a look at the counter and there are loads of items I want to try out. The main one is a Chanel blush as I have never tried one before. I would also love to purchase the Chanel Le Crayon Khol in black.

Barry M Gold Glitter
I figure you can't go wrong with Barry M nail varnishes. The quality and price are second to none. I have wanted to pick up a gold glitter for a while now to use it on an accent nail as gold looks beautiful with loads of nail colours.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint
This is on my wish list because I am a cosmetic junkie and just want to try every new product on the market. I have heard it is similar to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation so I definitely want to try it and it is very reasonably priced.

New Look Cream Cardigan
I have had my eye on this every time I step foot in New Look. The reason I haven't purchased it is because I am not sure it would suit me (I may end up looking like a sheep) and it is €30 which is pricey if I don't get the wear out of it. But I really want it because it is the softest and cosiest cardigan I have ever seen.

Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick
I am kind of cheating put this one in my wish list as I recently picked it up but I love it so much I want to go back and pick up the other colours on offer.

Oh I just realised how long my wish list is and to be honest this list is far from inclusive. What is top of your wish list?
